The sterilization of dental materials to be used in dentistry with appropriate techniques plays an important role in controlling infections. Our oral and dental health center has a single and clear purpose: to provide optimal health services to patients who have applied for treatment. This begins with the sterilization of the instruments used in examinations and treatments.

  1. Transfer of Dirty Instruments from Use Areas to the Sterilization Unit;
    In our clinics, the examination and treatment instruments that are used on our patients are collected in dirty boxes, sprayed with a disinfectant solution, and allowed to sit. The accumulated instruments are collected by transfer personnel in closed transfer containers and brought to the dirty area of sterilization.

  2. Transport to the Preparation and Maintenance Area, Counting - Maintenance and Control;
    Dirty instruments coming from the clinic are brushed underwater to remove dirt on them. Coarse dirt that cannot be removed with a brush is cleaned in an ultrasonic cleaning device. Instruments cleaned from coarse dirt are placed in baskets and subjected to thermal disinfection at 90 degrees. It is ensured that water reaches all parts of the instruments in the basket, which is verified with an indicator test. Detergents that provide alkaline and neutralization are used in the disinfectant. Instruments that are corroded or damaged after leaving the disinfectant are separated, maintained, and transferred to a clean area for packaging. The tests applied in this area include: ultrasonic washing test (once a week), Washing Device indicator test (with every wash), Protein residue test (once a week).

  3. Packaging and Sterilization;
    Instruments that have undergone pre-disinfection are packaged according to the use of the clinics, creating packages such as airators, micromotors, oral sets, treatment sets, etc., with a class 6 chemical indicator placed inside. These packages are sealed by an automatic sealing device using heat. During the sealing process, the packaging date, Autoclave Name, Packer, Expiration Date, Package Name, and Serial No. are printed on the package. The packaged instruments are placed appropriately in the autoclave basket. Baskets are placed in the autoclave and the program is started. The tests used include: Chemical Indicator (for each package), Autoclave leakage test (once a week), Bowie Dick Test (every morning), biological indicator (daily), Autoclave device sterilization process output.

  4. Maintaining Sterility Until Transfer to the Area of Use and Storage;
    Sterile instruments exiting the autoclave are taken to the Sterile instrument exit room for distribution to clinics. The ambient temperature of this room is maintained at 18 – 22 degrees, and the humidity level is kept at 35%-60%. Sterile instrument packages are placed on shelves positioned at least 20 cm off the ground, at least 15 cm from the ceiling, and 5 cm from the wall to maintain their sterility. Personnel are prohibited from entering this room from the outside.

  5. Transfer and Use of Sterile Instruments to Clinics;
    Sterile instruments are transferred to clinics in covered containers according to the clinics’ needs. The sterile instruments in the clinic are opened in a way that every patient can see and used in a sterile manner.
