Tartar, also known as calculus, is a product of minerals and plaque in your saliva that your dentist calls calculus. Tartar is a major cause of gum diseases such as gingivitis and periodontitis.
Tartar creates the biggest problem when it forms below the gum line. Tartar is chalky and hard; it is difficult to clean. A part of regular dental check-ups involves cleaning your teeth and tartar. This cleaning process is done by scraping the tooth with instruments called gratuar and curette, especially for tartar under the gum line, the procedure is uncomfortable and bleeds your gums. Another method is to use a vibrating device that helps clean tartar.
