Things to Consider After Tooth Extraction

Do not rinse your mouth for at least half an hour. Rinsing the mouth prevents the formation of a blood clot, which will ensure healing after the extraction, and causes a delay in the healing of the wound.

After the tooth extraction, bite down firmly on the gauze pad placed by your doctor for 15-20 minutes and swallow normally. Accumulating saliva in the mouth and constantly spitting can prevent the formation of a blood clot and cause the bleeding to continue.

Bleeding that may occur in the form of leakage can continue for 6-24 hours. Blood can stain your saliva. Therefore, do not panic thinking that you are bleeding a lot. You can consult your dentist about this.

You may feel pain after the procedure. You can take a pain reliever other than aspirin by consulting your doctor. Especially as your numbness wears off, the pain may reach its highest level, do not worry.

Since teeth are attached to the jawbone, the bone is exposed after extraction. For this reason, you may think that a piece is left from the extracted tooth. Do not touch this area with your tongue or any object. The open bone will be covered with your gums within a few days.

Avoid hot, spicy foods that may irritate the extraction site.

Do not smoke or drink alcohol for 24 hours after the extraction.

If possible, do not drive immediately after the extraction.

After the tooth extraction, if possible, put a high pillow under your head and rest. Avoid taking hot baths.

Do not eat anything until the numbness in your mouth wears off, you may unknowingly bite and injure the numb areas.

Continue normal oral care practices 24 hours after tooth extraction.

If you experience swelling on your face, pain after tooth extraction, bleeding that lasts more than 24 hours, a bad taste and odor in your mouth, call your dentist immediately.

If you had surgery on your tooth or stitches were placed after tooth extraction, do not forget your control appointment.
